What we collect
While you play a W42 application, the following pieces of information pass through the game:
- Your Meta / Oculus account identifier (UUID). This is the anonymous ID that lets us tell one player's scores apart from another's on a leaderboard.
- Your Meta / Oculus display name. Shown next to your entry so you and your friends can recognise who set which time.
- Gameplay results. Lap times, best scores, completion records and similar figures that are ranked against other players.
- Data returned by Meta's Leaderboard service. The identifier, display name and score statistics that Meta hands back to the game so the in-game boards can be drawn.
- Data returned by Meta's Achievements service. Used purely to show you which challenges you have already unlocked.
We do not ask for your address, your phone number, your payment details or your location, and none of that is stored by us.
Why we use it
Everything gathered through Meta's Leaderboard and Achievements services exists for one reason: to make the game itself work properly. That means ranking boards inside the game and displaying the achievements you have earned.
We do not feed this information into advertising networks, we do not sell it, we do not trade it, and we do not run external analytics or marketing campaigns off the back of it. By playing a W42 application you accept that your information will be handled the way this policy describes, COPPA included.
Parental consent
Where a player is 12 or younger, W42 obtains verifiable permission from a parent or legal guardian before any personal information about that child is collected, used or shared. If any details reach us ahead of that permission, they are used only to contact the parent and request consent — and if consent does not arrive within a reasonable window, we delete what we hold.
What the consent form tells parents
- That W42 has their contact details for the sole purpose of asking for permission.
- That nothing about their child will be collected, used or disclosed unless they agree.
- Exactly which additional pieces of information we would collect, and any other route by which the child could reveal personal information, if permission is granted.
- A direct link to this privacy policy.
- The available ways of giving that permission.
- That their contact details will be erased from our records if they do not reply within a reasonable period.
How permission can be given
- Signed form. Complete our consent form on screen or on paper and return it by post, fax or scanned attachment.
- Government-issued identification. Send a copy of an official ID, which we verify against a records database.
- Card or online payment. Use a credit card, debit card or comparable payment service that notifies the account holder of every transaction.
Player & parent rights
A parent or guardian keeps the following rights over their child's information for as long as we hold it:
- Review. Ask to see whatever personal information about the child we have on file.
- Withdraw permission. Cancel consent already given and stop any further collection or use.
- Erasure. Require us to delete the child's personal information.
Before acting on any of these requests we take sensible steps to confirm that the person contacting us really is the child's parent or guardian.
Protecting children
W42 treats information belonging to children as something to hold as briefly and as narrowly as possible. We request only what the game genuinely needs, keep it no longer than the purpose requires, and destroy it securely once that purpose has been served.
Keeping data safe
Information in our care is protected with practical safeguards — encrypted transfer and storage, along with restricted access so that only people who need to work with the data can reach it. These measures are there to guard against unauthorised access, alteration or disclosure.
How long we keep it
Leaderboard entries and every other piece of information covered here are kept only for as long as the purposes set out in this policy require. Once that period ends the data is securely destroyed.
Meta's own policies
Our applications run on Meta Horizon and rely on Meta's platform services. Any information Meta collects about you as an account holder is governed by Meta's own privacy policy rather than this one, and we would encourage you to read it. This policy describes only what happens inside a W42 application.
Updates to this policy
This policy may be revised from time to time. Any revised version is published on this page, and the change takes effect the moment it appears here. Check the Last updated date near the top to see when the wording last moved. We recommend looking over this page occasionally so nothing takes you by surprise.
